    This is really helpful.

    However, there are times when I feel that discussion just needs to stop. For example, at a review, someone questioned a design choice. I stated my rationale and noted that ultimately it would be the users who would decide if the thing worked. But the discussion dragged on and on with no purpose other than people expressing and re-expressing their opinion. Finally, I stopped the conversation by saying that the work was done, this is my decision, and we need to move on. Not surprisingly, this killed further discussion.
    I didn’t like being a buzz-kill, but I felt that we were wasting a lot of people’s time. There wasn’t learning going on, just talking.

    Maybe re-contexting the discussion to zero in on the purpose or desired result.
